Swearing In!!

So there is now only one day until swear in! All we have left to do is shop for stuff for our houses and then we will be affectated to our sites! I should be at my site by Friday, so I will have a little time to get settled in before Christmas!

Last week I was able to meet my counterpart (a representative from my association who will be my primary point of contact at my site). He seems like a very business oriented and professional person. He and the association seem eager to get started working, and I am ready to do the same!

I have been told that there is a cyber in my village, so hopefully I will continue to have relatively frequent internet access in order to continue updating this blog. There seems to be relatively a lot in my village for it being so small (small being between 4 and 6 thousand people). I have been told that there are plenty of boutiques (general stores) and there is a market every three days where I can get fruits and vegetables, and lots of other things that are brought in from Ouaga (one plus of being relatively close to it). I am living only 3k from my place of work, so there is easy access to the main village and to my association.

I will be affectating to my site relatively close to Christmas, and therefore I don’t know if I will be able to get to a cyber again before then, so I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!! I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season and their respective time off!

I am putting up some new images in the photo gallery from tech weekend when we worked with the baby onions! These images were not taken by me, but by another trainee that I went with on tech week. You can see her blog here: .

Thanks, and until next time (which may be from my new home!),

  1. Merry Christmas to you Christie! It sounds like you are charged and ready to get going with a new place and job. Getting ready for the staff Christmas party and all that goes with it. Everyone is busy as ever and hoping for a brighter New Year.
Thinking of you – take care! Janet

  2. Hey Christie,
I wish you a happy and healthy holiday season. I will be making caramel corn from your recipe in your honor.
We miss you so much! We are gearing up for another year of museum exhibits, thank goodness for grant money. It keeps us going. The latest news here – the M Cafe closed last week. Poor revenue. We will have new leadership in Santa Fe so don’t know what to expect there. The new year promises to be full of changes.
I love following your adventures, and just wish you the very best. Chris
